My stay at the MACAU ST REGIS Hotel was memorable not only for the comfort of the room and attentive service, but also for the unique “Sabrage” champagne-opening ceremony that set this hotel apart from others in Macau.

Travel Story – ST REGIS MACAU
Arrival & Check-In
When I arrived, the check-in process was smooth. After queuing briefly in the grand lobby, I received my room card and headed upstairs by elevator. The hotel has two entrances: one facing the main street, which we used when leaving, and another leading directly into the Sands complex, which was convenient for daily access.

The Room
- Type: Twin room. The beds faced the TV, and behind them was a soft cushion wall—no fear of bumping my head.
- Bathroom: Thoughtfully designed with dry/wet separation, a bathtub, shower, and double washbasins. Children’s toothbrushes were already prepared, which made me feel well cared for.
- Comfort: After dinner, returning to the room felt cozy—the bed was already prepared, and I could fall asleep while gazing at the night view.
- View: My room faced the Parisian Macao, with a clear sight of the Eiffel Tower lit up at night.

Service
The butler service was excellent. Staff could directly prepare drinks and deliver them to the room. The hotel was also very considerate about families, ensuring small details like children’s amenities were ready.
Atmosphere
We enjoyed sitting on the sofa, sipping coffee, and watching the world go by. The hotel was also very friendly for mobile devices, with plenty of charging outlets—both wired and wireless—at the desk and bedside.

Unique Highlight – The Sabrage Ceremony
The most special part of Sofitel Macau was its evening champagne-opening ritual.
- Every day at 6 p.m. in the lobby, staff announced the start of the ceremony by striking a gong.
- A few staff members carried candles and escorted the champagne.
- Using a sword (sabre), they opened the bottle in one dramatic motion. Watching the blade slice the cork off was thrilling.
- Afterwards, the champagne was shared with guests. Even children received fruit juice instead of wine, showing thoughtful hospitality.
This tradition originates from Napoleonic cavalry, and ST REGIS has adopted it worldwide as a signature experience. It gave the stay a sense of ceremony and exclusivity.

Reflection
My stay at ST REGIS Macau was more than just a comfortable hotel experience—it was a blend of elegance, family-friendly service, and cultural tradition. The room was cozy, the view enchanting, and the staff attentive. But what truly made it unforgettable was standing in the lobby at dusk, watching a sword flash as champagne flowed, and feeling part of something unique to this hotel.
